Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. She comes from the fourth Roberts family to have lived in Atlanta. The story began with her great grandfather John Pendleton Roberts who was an agriculturalist. The Robertses' father was interested in the theatre at a young age. He acted on at the Emory University campus in 1952 and in other productions that were staged around Atlanta. Following his air force service and appearing in an airforce production in Biloxi along with Betty Lou Bredemus. The two married in 1955 and the couple's first child Eric Anthony was born in 1956. In 1957 the couple left the Air Force and Walter was enrolled in Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. Walter was recruited to work for Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio to assist on the stage of Bum Bum and His Buddies. The show was filmed in Decatur Georgia. Walter and Betty Lou financed their own production of the local Sunday morning show for children, Bum Bum and His Buddies. Later that year they founded the Actors and Writers Workshop which ran for a period of six years. In 1965, they welcomed two new children: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
